The well-being of every student is at the heart of all our work
St Augustine’s Catholic ethos is that of a community where each member plays a part in creating an atmosphere enlivened by the gospel spirit of freedom and love. This is achieved through the daily exercise of courtesy, respect, care for others and self-discipline. In this way students are able to adopt a value system based upon the Gospel.
The pastoral structure is focused on the role of the Head of Year. Apart from Year 7, transition year, Heads of year accompany their year group through Years 8-11. The tutor is the first point of contact for any issues regarding the academic development and well-being of students. The tutor is allocated in Year 7 and stays with the group through to Year 11. This creates a relationship of trust with tutees and their families, built over a five year period.
Current heads of year can be found on the Staff List.
The Head of Pastoral has an overview of the pastoral care in the College and supports the Heads of Year with issues in their year groups. Head of Pastoral is also the designated Child Protection Officer. This role is supported by the Pastoral Officer, a non-teaching member of staff, who can offer a more immediate response to issues arising among students.
