Students, you will be expected to do regular homework as part of your daily routine. A homework timetable will be given to you on your first day by your Form Tutor and this will tell you which subjects will be given to you on which nights of the week. In Year 7 you are expected to spend one hour on homework (30 minutes per subject) each night. You will also have R & R (Revise and Review) on your homework timetable, letting you spend additional time in particular subject areas. Sometimes you may be set a ‘challenge’ task.
You will be given a student planner which will help you to organise your homework effectively. It is a good idea to try to do homework the night it is set, even if it is not due to be handed in the next day. Many students find it useful to have a homework folder to keep single homework sheets safe until they are handed in. At lunchtime there is a Homework Club where students can receive help with homework. This will be explained to you in more detail in September.
Your parents are asked to sign the planner each week after checking your homework. The day will vary between year groups but once a day is established it will remain the same for that academic year. Homework may be written, learning, reading or researching and all are equally important. If your homework is not satisfactory, your parents will be informed. Your student planner will also be used as a means of communication between the College and home over small matters and your parents should feel free to use it in this way. The student planners for Year 7 will be handed out on the first day and are free of charge. If you lose the planner you will be expected to buy another one. Please write in it neatly and look after it. The planner remains the property of the College and, therefore, should not be defaced or deliberately damaged.
