Developing an understanding of our part in our global community
At St Augustine’s we are keen to develop an understanding for our students of their part in our global community. Working alongside our school charity CAFOD we develop in our students an awareness that all people are children of God and that if we are to “see that justice is done, let mercy be our first concern, and humbly obey our God” (Micah 6:8) we must look to those parts of our world where injustice flourishes and do something to change it.
Our major social justice campaigns are during Advent and Lent:
During Advent we look to our local community to identify those people who require our help and as such our Advent campaigns are often supporting the homeless, those on limited incomes and those who find themselves separated from family and support networks.
During Lent we look further afield to help CAFOD support communities around the world who are struggling and work to raise both awareness and money to challenge the injustices creating the situation and to do what we can to help.
We also have ongoing community projects that continue throughout the year supporting our local primary schools, a local residential home and Lasallian communities around the world.
Our Young Lasallian Leaders group are dedicated to serving both the school community and poor Lasallian communities around the world and meet weekly to act as a focal point for the school community in raising awareness and fundraising to make a difference.
