Many miles of testing mental, physical & emotional strength!
The College has entered teams for the Ten Tors Challenge for the last 12 years. Preparation for this event, held in April/May, begins in February with the Yr 12 students entering the 45 mile event, and Yr 10 students entering the 35 mile event. Competition for the teams is fierce, with all participants knowing the mental, physical and emotional strength needed.
It is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn what they can do and how to support colleagues in difficult situations.
As one student has described it:
Ten Tors has its up and downs (quite literally!). Just when you think that you are at the top of a hill, you realise that in fact you are just a quarter of the way up. This not only makes it very hard on your legs, but frustrates you greatly! At least it is downhill on the other side which is not only very rewarding but incredibly satisfying! When you finish you have the most overwhelming sense of achievement and you feel so fantastic inside! It teaches you a lot about yourself, and also about the other people you walk with along the way.
