As Year 11 History students have begun their revision outside of lesson time, the History department would like to remind students of the resources available to them to aid their revision. (Details to follow after Easter on the History revision morning before the exams). Students study AQA GCSE History. The topics we cover are:
- Germany: Democracy and Dictatorship 1890 – 1945
- Conflict and Tension between East and West 1945 – 1972
- Power & the People, 1170 – present
- Elizabethan England, 1568 – 1603
Students have been loaned the AQA revision guide that includes all four topics, and also have the Elizabethan England revision guide to aid them in their revision. The resources that are available in the History Resources drive can be found here: R:\History\Students\GCSE
They include but are not limited to:
Specimen papers for paper 1 and 2; The knowledge recall tests for all 4 topics including the answer sheets; 5-a-day revision resources for all content over all 4 topics; Lesson PowerPoints; Detailed instructions on how to go about answering the exam questions for all 4 topics; Banks of practice questions for all 4 topics and exemplar answers.
All students have access to GCSEPod which has video ‘pods’ for many of their subjects. For History, pods are available for Germany, Conflict and Tension, and Elizabeth. These are specifically created for the AQA course and are a great way to revise.
Students also have access to Clickview where they can search for documentaries on the topics we study. In particular, there are many for Germany and Elizabeth. As Elizabeth is the last topic we are studying, here are some suggested documentaries, especially those which are on the Spanish Armada (the Historic Environment which is guaranteed to come up and account for 10% of their GCSE grade)
Lucy Worsley, Royal History’s Biggest Fibs- Spanish Armada; Dan Snow, Armada: 12 days to save England; Battlefield Britain, Spanish Armada.
This video outlines the 5-part plan format we use for the writing of extended answers (first 5 minutes or so):
We have put together a suite of YouTube tutorial videos to help students prepare for the exams:
