This week in science club we continued in our theme of witchcraft and wizardry in the real world watching ‘snakes’ form from chemical reactions. The pupils were particularly excited to see the demonstrations where sugar and acid was mixed to create a rising black pillar. The year 7’s then did their own small scale experiments. The key to completing this project was to accurately measure the substances so that you could see the effect well. Not everyone was successful but they all learned lots whilst enjoying themselves. Overall, even with disappointing results, the students all had lots of fun and are looking forward to next week where we will be extracting limonene from oranges.
