Today saw Owen Brown, Scott Pawley, Kwesi Biney and Christian DeJaeger compete in the annual West Wilts Badminton Competition.
Competing against 6 other teams around West Wiltshire, the first game on court for St A’s was a tough match against the first team of Matravers.
Owen was first on court against a tough opponent from Matravers in which saw him lose unfortunately 15-4.
The next game saw the doubles pairing of Kwesi and Christian compete against the double side of Matravers. Both St A’s players were playing some great badminton with Kwesi and Christian rising above the challenge to win 15-13!
The final singles match saw Scott just get beat 15-7 meaning that the pairing of Owen and Christian had to win to stay in the tie!
Thriving under the pressure the double pairing come through 15-7 to leave it down to Kwesi and Scott in the final doubles match, however just struggling to return the serves, they fell short losing 15-4.
St Augustines 2-3 Matravers ‘A’
After a quick break, the second round of matches got underway with St A’s up against Kingdown ‘B’ with Owen unfortunately losing 15-7 in the first singles match!
With the double pairing of Christian and Kwesi up next and high on confidence from their previous doubles win, they overcame their next match up coming from behind to show great spirit and win 15-11!
Scott was up next, and put in an excellent performance to come out victorious and win the match 15-1 leaving only one win from the final two games to win the match.
The pairing of Owen and Christian were up next, and after coming back from 9-1, to 9-9 they just fell short losing out 15-13 in a tight contest!
In the final doubles match, the pairing of Kwesi and Christian thrive under the pressure to come out and win the match 15-4 and win the tie for St A’s in 5 great matches!
St Augustines 3-2 Kingdown ‘B’
Last pool match saw St A’s play against a St Laurence side, with both teams looking for a win to keep their tournament hopes alive.
Owen’s singles match was up first, and struggled to get going early on in the match, and even with a little fight back on the cards, ended losing the match 15-8.
Next up with a 100% record were the pairing of Kwesi and Christian. With confidence running that carried on the great form and came through to win 15-8 with Scott’s single matchup next!
Unfortunately, even though he put everything into the performance, he came up short losing 15-7 giving St L a 2-1 lead match advantage.
Owen and Christian returned to the court, needing a win to keep the match alive. With pressure high, they come home with a 15-5 victory.
The match went to the final game like the previous two, and the pair of Kwesi and Scott fought tooth and nail to try and bring home the victory. A close match saw St A come out in a deciding point to win 15-14!
St Augustine 3-2 St Laurence
After only losing one game, Matravers who were the team they lost to were eventual winners which just goes to show the standard that St A’s played at during the tournament!
