Chippenham Dome was the destination for 10 of our best under 13’s cricket boys, with a place in next months Wiltshire Finals awaiting two of the 6 team participating.
With a strong group consisting of Kingdown and Corsham, the team knew they would have to perform well to be in with a shout of reaching the final.
St A’s first match was against the strong Kingdown side, who batted first posting a very good score of 59 runs out of 8 overs to leave St Augustine’s 60 to win. A strong Jake Farion display saw him retire on 20 runs, with captain Elliot Milton seeing the team to victory posting 74 runs on the way to victory.
After a games rest, the team knew that they would have to field and bowl a lot better to be in with a shout against Corsham. Corsham batted first, and couldn’t deal with the bowling of the St A’s side with them getting bowled out for 37 runs, Luke Roddy getting 4 of the wickets. St A’s started slow, however picked up the pace in the 5th over when Jack Farion and Luke Roddy scored 36 runs between them to guide the St A’s side to a 22 run victory!
St A’s finished top of their group leaving them to wait to find who’d they face in the final for a chance to play in the Wiltshire Finals next month. John Bentley beat Kingdown, which left them to beat for that honour and it started brilliantly, the captain again shining with 3 wickets to his name as they fielded and bowled amazingly to dismiss all of the John Bentley batters for only 28 runs! The game was settled in only the 3rd over as the opening pairing of Will Andrews and James Drake guided the team a well deserved, and hard working victory!
A brilliant display from the boys who only had 20 minutes game time together before this event, and who only got stronger and stronger as the games went on! Bring on the Wiltshire Finals!!
