The KS3 girls badminton team travelled to Bournemouth on Wednesday 1st March, on a quest to continue their route to the National Finals in Milton Keynes. The South West regional round of the competition is well renowned for its high standards, so the girls were well prepared, if not a little nervous of what the competition would have in store.
As newly crowned Wiltshire Champions, the girls were drawn against Truro School, Cornwall; King’s Mead, Somerset and Badminton School, Avon. Tough games followed with a hard defeat against Truro in the opening match leaving confidence levels low. The quality of badminton improved in the second match, but a narrow defeat against Badminton School was all that came from it. The girls had to win against King’s Mead to secure a place in the play-offs and it couldn’t have been closer, with a deciding point 20-20 going in the favour of the Somerset school. A tough tournament, with many successes and lessons to be learnt along the way. The team finished as 7th position in the South West, a huge achievement! Well done girls! Miss Portingale.
